HARMONY AT THE STRAND

COMMUNITY SINGING Although winter skies were not too cheerful, hundreds of Auckland’s citizens sang farewell to the inevitable blackbird and rang imaginary church bells for Mary Lou, with the usual abandon at the community sing yesterday. The largest crowd yet filled the Strand Theatre when the singing began. Old greybeards and junior typistes rubbed shoulders and joined in harmony in the singing of old and new favourites. Mr. W. Guthrie carried through the dual role of chairman and song leader. Mrs. G. Hilyer was the soloist and Mrs. Barrington-Snow the accompaniste.
