WON’T AND CAN’T WORK
WARNING TO MAORI THIEF (From Our Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Wednesday. Described by the police as one who would not work and could not hold a position, Tom Davy, a Maori youth of 19 years, was admitted to probation for a period of 12 months at the Pukekohe Court to-day. Davy pleaded guilty to the theft of a camera and a pack of playing cards. Last year he had been given a similar period of probation for stealing a football, and was subsequently gaoled for failing to report to the police as required in the terms of probation. The police added that nothing could be said in his favour. The magistrate, Mr. F. H. Levien, warned the youth to report himself as often as required, and to work in an honest fashion. If he failed m either direction he would be sent to the Borstal Institute.
