ONE OF THE RICHEST
SIR DAVID YULE DEAD (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, Wednesday. The death is announced of Sir David Yule, aged 70. Sir David, who was a bank and insurance director, was considered to be one of the half-dozen richest men in Britain. He was stated to be worth £11,000,000. He lived in comparative obscurity, and was a man of simple tastes. Sir David Yule, who was knighted in 1912 and created a baronet in 1922, was born in 1858 in Edinburgh. He was a member of the firm of Andrew Yule and Company, Ltd., Calcutta, merchants, and of Yule, Catto and Company, Ltd., London, and was a director of the Midland Bank, the Royal Exchange Assurance, Vickers, Ltd., and the Mercantile Bank of India. He married in 1900 Miss Annie Y r ule, of Calcutta. He had no heir. The knighthood was conferred on Sir David Y’ule bv King George in person, at the time of his visit with Queen Mary to India, in 1912, at a brilliant function at the Palace of the Viceroy in Calcutta. The baronetcy was conferred “for public services.” _______
