Peace —Not Revenge
GERMAN POLICY OUTLINED New Chancellor’s Speech (United P.A. —By Telegraph—Copyright (Australian P.A.—United Service) Received 11.15 a.m. BERLIN. Tuesday. THE new Chancellor, Dr. Mueller, in a statement in the Reichstag on the new Cabinet’s foreign policy, declared that it was based on a desire for peaceful understanding. He repudiated the idea of revenge.
The Government would further follow up the aim of procuring German equality with other nations, with which she desired to co-operate honestly for the political and economic consolidation of Europe. The Government was convinced that it was justified in demanding immediate
evacuation of occupied areas. Ii this were not accepted, a great opportunity of translating a policy of understanding into deeds would be lost. He expected the Allies to share Germany’s standpoint on this. Only goodwill was needed to solve the problem.
