HOSPITAL ENGINEER
MR. A. E. RHODES APPOINTED EXPERIENCE OF 19 YEARS Mr. A. E. Rhodes, of Auckland, was appointed engineer to the Auckland Hospital Board at a special meeting presided over by Mr. W. Wallace, last evening. Mr. Rhodes, who is 37 years old, has had 19 years’ experience as an engineer. He is a member of the Institute of Engineers and of the Society of Civil Engineers. For two yc;ars he was technical engineer to the Vacuum Oil Company in Australia, and is at present engineer to the Electrical Testing Institute. MEN OF PROVED ABILITY Commenting on the applications received for the position of engineer to the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the board, said yesterday that they had been sent in by men with unusually high qualifications. Nearly 200 applications were received, and of these the Finance and Buildings Committee selected 10 to be read and the candidates to be interviewed in open board. The 10 selected were men with excellent records in the engineering profession. Seven of them held marine certificates and four had gained electrical engineering certificates- of different grades Most of them were members of either New Zealand, Australian or American engineering institutes, and all had records of service in this and other countries of which they might well be proud. They were comparatively young men, their ages ranging from the early thirties to the early forties, and it was a problem presenting some difficulty to select one man to outshine his fellow-applicants to any considerable degree.
