Hennessy, who on November 28. 1927. was fined £s>o. and bad his license cancelled till March 31. 1930, for being drunk in chnrpe of a. car, to-day applied for a remission of the cancellation of his licence. Counsel described the hardship which were very severe on a doctor, owing to his inability to carry out calls. Dr. Hennesev gave evidence, saying:, inter alia, that he could not afford a chauffeur. Mr. J. H. Salmon. S.M., said he fully considered the matter at the time, and he recognised the hardships involved. This was part of the penalty. He had a duty to the public and he was not going to wait till someone was killed. In cases of this nature, especially where it was a second offence, as in this case, a man’s licence should be suspended for a long period, if not for all time.
