LIQUOR FOR YOUTH INFORMATION DISMISSED (From Uur Own Correspondent .» HAMILTON, To-day. A charge of allowing a youth apparently under the age of 21 years to be served with liquor was preferred against George Gillett, licensee of the Commercial Hotel, Hamilton, in the Police Court, before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., to-day. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by Owen Carl Sherman that on the evening of April 28 he was arrested on a charge of assault. Shortly after 5 p.m. he had obtained liquor from the Commercial Hotel. Witness said he was 17 on December 25 last. He was served by a barmaid. Defendant said there were races on April 2S and he remained in the hotel all day watching the bars. It was a standing instruction that no one under 21 should be served. He did not see Sherman in the hotel. Louisa Mary Trudgeon, barmaid, said she did not remember serving Sherman. She had had 22 years’ experience, and frequently had occasion to ask youths their age. She would have served Sherman, for he looked over 21 years of age. The information was dismissed.
