RAILWAYMEN’S SOCIAL NICHT With thoughts of the Railway Department’s active service happily in the background for one night, members of the Auckland branch of the Railway Officers Institute held their annual reunion on Saturday evening. Mr. E. J. Roseman, chairman of the branch, presided, and among the guests were Mr. 11. H. Sterling, general manager of New Zealand Railways, Mr. E. Casey, North Island divisional superintendent, Mr. J. G. FUckerby, Auckland traffic manager. Mr. J. F\ Macklev, chief locomotive engineer for the North Island, and Mr. A. W. Wellsted, rail-| way commercial agent. In proposing the toast of “ The Management,” Mr. F. G. J. Team said that the presence of Mr. Sterling and Mr. Casey showed that they were one with the staff in spirit. He asked the men to be loyal to the management, for in helping the highly-placed, officers, railwaymen were helping themselves. Tho other toasts honoured were:! “Parliament,” “R. 0.1,” “Superannuated Members,” ’ Kindred Societies, | and “The Ladies.” A first-rate musical programme and refreshment* helped toward the evening’s enjoy- 1 ment.
