JUNE RAINFALL WAS HEAVIER THAN USUAL
MILD WINTER MONTHS The rainfall for the half-year just closed reached a total of 26.41 inches, compared with an average of 26.16 inches for the corresponding period in the past four years, according to observations made at the Albert Park Observatory by the official Government observer. The exceptionally dry weather experienced early in the year lias been counterbalanced by a heavier fall than usual for the month of June. The rainfall for tho past month was 5.84 inches, 1.12 inches above the avei-age. The average reading of the barometer was 29.572. The maximum reading was 30.226 on June 8, and the minimum 29.390 on June 19. The mean of the month’s maximum shade temperatures was 59 degrees, the maximum reading of 66 degrees being obtained on June 17, and the minimum. 39 degrees, on June 22 and 23.; The mean of the minimum readings was 49 degrees. Periods of bright sunshine totalled! 98 hours 10 minutes, the longest period of sunshine in any one day being 8 hours 30 minutes on Jure 3. There were four days without sunshine. In June last there were 126 .lours of sunshine and four days without sunshine. Juno was a typical winter month, although temperatures were somewhat milder than usual. A southerly gale occurred on the 12th, and an easterly gale on the 16th. In common with the rest of the Dominion, Auckland felt the force of a severe westerly storm on tho 29th. Rain fell on 22 days, com-] pared with 18 in June, 1927, and the maximum fall was 1.40 in, on June 16.
