SCOTTISH BOXER TO FIGHT IN AUCKLAND

COMING FROM AUSTRALIA BOUT ON AUGUST 3 I Tommy Mclnnes, the Scottish middle- ; weight boxer, who has been performing ! well in Australia, is coming to Auck- i land, where he will fight either Jim Broadfoot, Clarrie Pocock, or Lachie i McDonald. The secretary of the Northern Box- j ing Association, Mr. J. H. Watts, sent a cablegram to Mclnnes offering him a fight in Auckland on August 3, with . the association’s option for two other bouts. Mclnnes has cabled his acceptance, and states that he is ready to come immediately. Mclnnes has made a name for himself in Australia, where he has a good record. From all accounts, he fights very much on the same style as Broadfoot and McDonald, with the pace on from the first gong. Broadfoot has made himself popular throughout New Zealand by his willing methods, and a boxer of the same calibre will be welcome in Auckland. McDonald is returning to New Zealand to met Casey for the middleweight championship, and after that engagement will probably be signed up to meet either Mclnnes or Broadfoot at Auckland. Pugilism in this city is taking a new lease of life, and with such men engaged a fistic treat is promised. FRIDAY’S CONTESTS Matt Hatton and Frank Taylor are both in solid training for their bouts on Friday, and it is confidently anticipated in their respective camps that the Aucklanders will collect the large ends of the purses. Both fights should be fast and interesting with more science in evidence than has been the case in the middleweight battles which have been staged lately. Neither Carroll nor Larsen has been seen in actiin in Auckland, but from all accounts the former is an accomplished boxer who will give Hatton a good fight, if not a beating, and thus give the Aucklander his first defeat. Larsen will be appearing for the first time as a paid performer but he is expected to beat Taylor. If he can beat the Aucklander he will have made a very successful debut. Hatton is showing good form in his gymnasium work-outs and he may prove too heavy a puncher for Carroll. Taylor too, is noted for his solid punch as w*ell as his scientific boxing and as he is very fit he should be a fin© match for Larsen. The box-plans for the fight open at Carter and Asher’s to-morrow morning.
