AUCKLAND DENTIST TO PAY £SO FINE
INTOXICATION CHARGE STRUCK MANGERE BRIDGE '•He was so intoxicated that pedestrians were afraid to ride with him.” said Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., at Onehunga this morning, in fining W. W. Faulder, an Auckland dentist, £SO and costs £7 4s, for being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car.
For failing to report an accident. Faulder was convicted, a charge of dangerous driving being withdrawn. Evidence showed that Faulder and a man namer Barber drove from Auckland to Otahuhu through Onehunga, and the defendant was pretty merry.” Several pedestrians, who rereived invitations for a ride on the return journey, refused after seeing the driver’s condition. Faulder subsequently struck the sides of Mangere Bridge three times in crossing. Barber was thrown out and crushed between the parapet and the car. When the police arrived Faulder had vanished. He later told the police he had left the car temporarily, and on his return it had disappeared, having apparently been stolen. Faulder did not defend his case.
