COLLECTOR OF CUSTOMS
CHRISTCHURCH OFFICER RETIRES (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. The Collector of Customs in Christchurch, Mr. W. J. Wratt, has retired on superannuation. Mr. Wratt has occupied the position for 16 years, and has been in the department since 1884. He joined in Dunedin and was transferred to Wellington in the audit branch. In 1898 he took charge of the office at Nelson, and in 1903 returned to Dunedin. In 1912 he was appointed collector at Christchurch. Mr. Wratt was presented with an armchair by members of his staff. Mr. W. Howarth, the sub-collector of Customs, will carry out the duties of collector until a permanent appointment has been made.
