The by-election for the ITolborn seat, rendered vacant owing to the elevation to the peerage of the sitting Conservative member, Sir James Remnant, resulted as follows: Mr. S. Bevan (Conservative) . . 6,365 Mr. Percy Allott (Labour). . . 2.238 Mr. Morton (Liberal) 2,062 Conservative majority .. . . 4,127 At the general election in 1924, Sir James Remnant had a majority of 7,710 over his Labour opponent, Mr. W. Messer. CARMARTHEN SEAT LOST LIBERAL VICTORY (Australian P.A.—United Service) Reed. 10.50 a.m. LONDON, Friday. The Carmarthen by-election, due to the elevation to the peerage of Sir Alfred Mond, resulted: Colonel W. Jones (Liberal) 10,201 D. Hopkin (Labour) 10,151 Sir Courtenay Mafsel (Con.) 8,361 The result of the last election was:— Sir Alfred Mond (Conservative) . 16,303 Rev. E. T. Owen (Labour) .. . 7,953
