“A VERY SMART SHIP”

PRINCE VISITS AUSTRALIA (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. The Prince of Wales's visit to H.M.A.S. Australia was a private one, but this did not prevent ceremonial touches being imparted. A Royal salute was fired and all warships in the harbour hoisted a rainbow of bunting. As the Prince boarded the Australia the crew “manned ship” to receive him. He was piped aboard by the boatswains, according to the custom of the Service. Rear-Admiral G. F. Hyde presented his officers to the Prince, who shook hands and then went on to the quarterdeck, where the crew tiled past. Admiral Hyde piloted the Prince round the decks, the Prince complimenting him on the cruiser’s spruce appearance, describing the Australia as a very smart ship.
