PIGS AND FLOODS
BRIDAL PARTY’S TROUBLES GUESTS HAVE TO BE RESCUED (From Our Own Correspondent) DARGAVILLE, Thursday. A collision with a lorry load of pigs, and a flooded road, spoiled the day for a bridal party and guest at a wedding at Maramanui to-day. The bridal party, while coming to Dargaville, had the misfortune to collide with a motor-lorry loaded with pigs. Two of the party suffered minor injuries, and the motor-truck sustained a broken axle. In the evening another party returning from the wedding celebrations was marooned in a flood on the road, but they were eventually rescued by a motor sent out from Dargaville. Taylor’s Flat, between Tangiteroria and Whangarei, was well under water to-day, but will be open again for traffic to-morrow. The roads on the Ruawai Flats were also under water yesterday, and motor-bus drivers had an exciting time negotiating some of the floods. With the finer weather today most of the water has subsided, although there are still a number of low-lying paddocks under water.
