BOWLING

ANNUAL MEETINGS SOUTH AUCKLAND CENTRE HAMILTON, To-day. At the annual meeting of the South Auckland Bowling Centre yesterdaj*. Mr. S. R. James (Cambridge) presided over a good attendance of members. The executive reported that there were 32 clubs affiliated to the centre, •with a total membership of 1,587 bowlers. The income for the year and a-lialf the executive had been"in office amounted to £219 2s lOd. and the expenditure to £258 11s 9d. The finances were in a satisfactory state. A good deal of money had been spent on entertaining visitors during the past season. Altogether £SB was spent entertaining Australian and Taranaki bowlers, who visited South Auckland. A party comprising 32 players visited the Bay of Plenty clubs during the season. A home and home match between Auckland and South Auckland Centres was played for the shield donated by Mr. J. Hardley, to encourage a closer friendship between the two centres. Auckland won the shield. W. J. North, of Te Awamutu, won the singles championship. The rink championship was won by Oates. McIntyre, Livingstone and Stewart, of Matamata. Several members of the executive travelled over 1,000 miles during theix* term of office on business in connection with the centre. The balance sheet showed a profit of £lB 12s Id. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. S. R. James; vice-presi-dent, Mr. D. Meredith; secretary*. Mr. W. C. Wycherley; treasurei*, Mr. W. M. Horton; executive, Messrs. J. A. Clothier (Te Aroha), G. W. Hyde (Hamilton), D. Mac Kay, J. Piatt (Thames), J. T. North (Te Awamutu), J. Prickett (Hamilton East), W. Fi-aser (Claudelands); sub-management committee, the president, vice-president and Mr. W. M. Horton; sole selector, Mr. R. N. Pilkington. At the unanimous request of the meeting Mr. Pilkington consented to act as delegate Lo the Dominion Council. Mr. W. M. Horton introduced a scheme for the champion of champions and the pennant competitions. He proposed that the centre be divided into eight groups, each to find a champion. The eight players would then meet to determine the champion of champions. In the pennant competition it was suggested that each group should find three pennant teams, which would then play to determine which team should hold the South Auckland pennant for the season. WHANGAREI CLUB (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Wednesday. At the annual meeting of the Whangarei Bowling Club last night, Mr. P. A. Judd presided. The balance sheet showed that the expenditure totalled £558, and receipts amounted to £548. A debenture of £SO had been paid off. The president said the incoming committee must consider means of raising funds and later the match committee was empowered to draw up rules for all competition games. Trophies won during the season were presented as follows: —Champion singles, G. IT. Allan; handicap singles, T. Nobes; champion pairs, S. Gribble and W. Stewart: handicap pairs, E. A. Simmons and S. C. Blanshard; club fours, N. McKenzie, W. C. Coote, T. H. Steadman and G. Harrison. The president congratulated Mi*. Allan upon also emei'ging as champion of champions of North Auckland. With the champion singles trophy was handed over a, handsome cup presented by Mr. Jos. Hill as a challenge trophy to be held by the champion until defeated. Presentations were also made of a pipe to the treasurer, Mr. A. R. Crane; an ink-stand to the secretary. Mr. J. Evans; and a silver cigarette ease to the green supei'intendent, Mr. W. P. Delamore. Marshall and G. Marshall: match committee, Messrs. J. T. Stone, W. J. Orr and J. Donaldson. THE WAITEMATA CLUB The annual meeting of the Waitemata Bowling and Croquet Club was held at Northcote last evening, the president, Mr. N. E. Heath, presiding. The election of officers resulted: President, Mi*. H. Cadness; vice-presi-dents. Messrs. D. R. Davies and H. Burrows; secretary, Mr. A. C. Wells; treasurer, Mr. N. Swanson; committee, Messrs. R. A. Johnston, J. W. Lethbridge, W. McKinstrie, E. J. Frasei*, J. Blackledge. E. Rogex*s and F. Hubble; auditor, Mr. D. Elston; coach, Mr. J. R. McPhail; reporter, Mr. R. A. Johnston; delegates to Auckland Centi’e, Messrs. N. E. Heath and D. R. Davies; delegate to Marine Boroughs Centre, Mr. S. E. McGill; sole selector for pennant and interclub competitions, Mr. W. H. Glover; match committee, Messrs. W. PI. Glover, W. McKinstrie and E. J. Fraser. It was decided to enter teams for the Auckland Centx'e Pennant, the Marine Pennant and the Bendigo Bowls competitions. The new president, Mr. H. Cadness, offered to donate a cup for competition among the clubs on the north side of the harboux*, and the Marine Centre is to be asked to accept it. The trophies won during the past season were presented as follows: Club champion, Mr. R. A. Johnston: runnerup, Mr. H. Burrows; champion pairs, Messrs. H. Burrows and E. Rogers; runners-up, Messrs. R. A. Johnston and P. Delaney; championship fours, Messrs. N. Swanson. J. T. Aspden, T. H. Hurley and S. E. McGill; Oxley Memorial Cup. Mr. A. G. Osborne; run-ner-up. Mr. E. J. Fraser; first-year’s champion, Mr. W. Corrin; runner-up, Mr. A. C. Wells. A resolution in favour of daylight saving was passed.
