EDUCATION BOARD

ELECTION OF MEMBERS CONTESTS IN TWO AREAS Nominations for seven vacancies on the Auckland Education Board closed yesterday. The vacancies are due to the statutory retirement of members, who may offer themselves for re-election. Nominations for two of the five areas concerned exceed the vacancies, but in the other three no election will be necessary. All the retiring members offer themselves for re-election. The following are the details of the election: Auckland urban area—Messrs. G. Brownlee, H. S. W. King, and T. U. Wells (retiring members), J. Purtell, R. A. Rew, and Mrs. Isabella M. Benfell; Hamilton urban area—Mr. F. A. Snell (retiring member), unopposed: north ward of the rural area, Mr. R. Hoe (retiring member), unopposed: east ward of the rural area, Mr. A. Burns (retiring member), unopposed: west ward of the rural area, Mr. J. Patterson (retiring member), Mr. J Primrose. School committee members in the areas concerned are entitled to vote, and to-day ballot papers will be sent to a member of each committee in the areas where a vote is necessary. It is a postal ballot, and papers should be returned to the office of the Education Board by July 18, but as two weeks’ grace is allowed, the votes will not be counted until August 2.
