TAKAPUNA TRAMWAYS

DISMANTLING OF ENGINES The dismantling of the seven steam engines of the old Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company, Ltd., which have been purchased by Mr. F. Appleton, of Arthur Street, Newmarket, a machinery dealer, was commenced on Tuesday. Since the company ceased running the. engines have been stored at Bayswater, where they are being dismantled. There was no sale for the engines, as the gauge of 4ft 9in was too wide for any other track in New Zealand. Three of the engines were built in the United States and the others were constructed in England. They vary in age from four to 19 years.
