Obituary

MR. JOSEPH CHAMBERS With a record of 14 years’ Imperial Army service, including actice service during the three years of the Afghan War, a fine old soldier, Air. Joseph Chambers, died at Leamington yesterday at the age of 85 years. He was born at Barliboro’, County Cavan, Ireland, and at the age of j 3 enlisted with the 85th Regiment, Light Infantry. He was with his regiment in Lord Roberts’s famous march to Kabul. In 1881 he got his discharge from the army and came out from India to New Zealand. He settled in the Cambridge district, and had resided there ever since. He is survived by his widow and a grown-up family of five daughters and two sons. One son, Joseph, was accidentally killed at Frankton Junction while on final leave during the late war.
