DOCTOR’S SUDDEN DEATH
LATE DR. S. GREEN A DISTINGUISHED CAREER (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. Dr. Samuel Green, the well-known local surgeon, died during the night, aged 37. He was the son of Dr. Green, a well-known opthalmic surgeon of Lincoln, England. He was educated at Stoneyliurst College, a famous Jesuit seminary in Lancashire. He studied medicine at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. An extremely clever surgeon, Dr. Green was hampered throughout his life by ill-health. He came to the Dominion in 1917. After living in the South Island for some years, he was appointed superintendent of the Kawakawa Hospital. He came to Hamilton in 1921, and practised here since then. He was an accomplished musician and book-lover. He was president of the Kennel Club, and vice-president of the golf club. His work as district secretary of the British Medical Association affected his health during the medical conference some months ago. He performed a delicate operation yesterday morning, and it is thought he may have worried over the patient’s progress. He leaves a wife and two children.
