TO AID AMUNDSEN

NOBILE SEARCHERS TURN GREAT EXPLORER MISSING ARCTIC EXPERTS CONFIDENT (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) Reed. 9.5 a.m. ROME, Friday. A naval seaplane piloted by Commandant Rsvazzoni h2s left Pisa en route for the polar regions, to assist to rescue General Nobile. An Oslo message says that practically the whole of the relief expeditions organised on behalf of General Nobile have now turned to search for Captain Roald Amundsen. Two French warships and a number of airplanes and seaplanes will take up an immediate search.

The French Government has ordered a cruiser and a destroyer, which are at present at Oslo, to proceed to King’s Bay. The Norwegian Government has despatched a fishing supervision vessel which is at present in the vicinity of Bear Island to join the Russian ice-breaker Krassin. The hopes of the Norwegians are momentarily centred on Commandant Maddalena, who has set out for North East Land to search for Captain Amundsen. The missing seaplane contained a collapsible rubber boat capable of holding four people, and provisions for a fortnight. Authorities on the Arctic are confident of rescue. They recall Captain Amundsen’s unrivalled Arctic knowledge, and also refer to his safe return in 1925, when he and his present companion, Lieutenant Dietrichsen, were missing for three weeks.
