INDIAN ARMY CHIEF
NEW APPOINTMENT MADE SIR PHILIP CHETWODE British Official Wireless RLIGBY, Wednesday. General Sir Philip Chetwode has been appointed Chief of the General Staff in India, in succession to Lieuten-ant-General Sir Andrew Skeen. Sir Philip Walhouse Chetwode was recently Commander-in Chief of tho Aidershot Division. He entered the Army in ISS9, and served in Burma, 1592-93; South Africa, 1599-1902. and in the recent war, in which he first commanded a cavalry division. He was with the Palestine Army at the capture of Jerusalem. After the war he was Deputy-Chief of the Imperial General Staff, 1920-22. and later Adjutant-General to the Forces. He is a member of the Army Council. He was appointed a General Officer in 1926. Sir Andrew Skeen has been Chief of the Indian Genera' Staff since 1924. He served on the North-west Frontier. 159798. in China (1900) and in the late war. In 1919 he was in the Waziristan campaign, and later was G.O.C. the Southern Command. India.
