AN OPPORTUNITY
"ITR. GEORGE SIMPSON, of Christchurch, one of the best-known authorities in the Dominion on trotting affairs, and who is making his mark at the handicapping business, is visiting Auckland for the winter carnival. Mr. Simpson is secretary of that wonderfully live organisation the Canterbury Owners’, Breeders’ and Trainers’ Association, which has done so much in the interest of those closely connected with the sport and brought about many reforms in transport conditions and other questions of vital importance. While Canterbury can boast such a useful and helpful organisation, it seems deplorable that through lack of unanimity or interest a similar association in Auckland has become obsolete to the detriment of Northern owners and trainers. Threats have been made to revive the movement and the enthusiasts might take * advantage of Mr. Simpson's visit to gle.an how the Southerners successfully manage their concern. But unless Aucklanders intend to pull together it is no use wasting their time or that of the visiting Canterbury secretary. And while they remain in the state of ‘’don't caredom” they cannot hope to get anywhere.
