CARDS AND DANCING The social evening held in the Papatoetoe Town Hall on Wednesday evening was a very successful and enjoyable function. The arrangements were in the hands of Misses G. Grinter and P. Healey, and the proceeds are to be devoted to the Papatoetoe Catholic Church. A splendid musical programme was provided by the Hanlin’s Boys’ Orchestra, and pleasing extras were supplied by Miss Rao Stonex. Mr. T. Lambert was M.C. The hall was prettily decked with a canopy of multi-coloured streamers, from which hung quaintly-patterned Japanese lanterns, and a maze of streamers adorned the stage. During the evening a 500 tournament was held, and after some keen contests the following were 1 the winners: Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Butler, and consolation prizes were awarded’ to Mr. McSweeney and Mrs. Rhodes. The gaiety of the function was greatly added to by a number of dancing competitions. The prizewinners were: Roulette dance, Mr. Scown and Miss P. Piggin, Mr. Sigley and Miss D. Grinter, Mr. Ingram and Miss R. Lipscombe, Mr. Robertson and partner. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Misses K. and M. Waters.
