QUEEN CARNIVAL

DANCE FOR FUNDS There was a good attendance at Pakahi Hall at the dance given in support of the Sawdust and Country Queen in the Queen Carnival, inaugurated for the purpose of raising funds for the rebuilding of the Catholic Church at Okakune. Visitors attended from Ohakune, Raetihi, Horopito and Rangatuau. A good dance programme was presented, and during the e\-ening Eileen Plunkett and Moreen Carver delighted those present with a fancy dance, “Swanee.” A novel feature of the proceedings was the auctioning of baskets of cakes, 36 of which were knocked dow~n by Mr. F. G. Cody, auctioneer, the highest prices realised being the Country Queen's basket, which realised 435. Mrs. Curran’s basket was knocked down for 2Ss, and the basket brought by Mrs. F. Coury was bought at 24s The weight-judging competition resulted in Mrs. P. Green, Mr. W. West and Mr. W. Simpson guessing the correct weight, 1011 b. Messrs. Evans and Simpson were M.C.’s, and the music was supplied by the Peerless Orchestra. Mr. C. Baker and Miss Haddock supplied the extras
