NEW THEORIES ADVANCED
SOLDIER’S MEDAL MYSTERY MAY HAVE COME FROM BLENHEIM Press Association. HASTINGS, To-das’ - . The reproduction in the “Hawke’s Bay Tribune” last evening of a photograph of the medal found on the body of an unknown New Zealand soldier near Flers, caused M.r. A. Rosenberg, of Hastings, to formulate a theory which may lead to identification. His theory is that the initials, “8.5. C.,” are not those of a person, but of “Blenheim Swimming Club.” This morning, Mr. Rosenberg, while searching Expeditionary Force records, found the name Mitford Taylor, 7/278, Main Body, Canterbury Mounted Rifles, next of kin, father, M. Taylor, Koromiko, Marlborough. The medal is a Maltese cross with the initials. “8.5. C.,” engraved on the front, and on the reverse, “Mrs. Neville’s Trophy, won by M. Taylor.” Several Neville families live in Blenheim. Another theory is that “8.5. C.” stands for “Brighton Surf Club.”
