LUCAS ON THE JOB
TEAM WORKING INTO FORM
For Aucklanders, the most pleasing feature of the latest match is the form shown by F. W. Lucas, who has evidently started to produce his Eden Park tricks. Sheen must be palpably below form —which explains the inclusion of Carle-
ton. But as Sheen has played in only two matches out of seven, with an interval of a fortnight between his two appearances, he could hardly be expected to show consistent form. Inaccuracy in handling is not usually one of his faults. M. Brownlie, Finlayson, and Alley, the giant middle-row, again win favourable mention. This is evidently a great trio. Harvey, the other lock with the team, has played in only one game, the first match at Capetown. Stewart and Finlayson have now played in six games out of seven, while Maurice Brownlie, Swain, Grenside, Robilliard and Lilburne have each played in five; Hadley, McWilliams, and Lucas, the Aucklanders, have played in three each, and Sheen in two. The following are the results so far: v. Combined Western Province country teams, won 11—3. v. Combined Capetown Clubs, lost 3—7. v. Griqualand West, won 19—10. v. Transvaal, lost o—6. v. Orange Free State (country), won 20 — 0. v. Transvaal, won s—o.5 —0. v. Western Transvaal, won 19—S. Played, 7; won 5; lost 2; points for. 77; against, 34.
