LIMITED TO HAVE TWO SECOND-CLASS CARS
ONE NOT SUFFICIENT PASSENGERS ABUSE GUARDS From next Monday another second-class car will be placed on the Limited. Some wdeks ago the department decided to put a third sleeping-car on the Limited and to make room for it a second-class car was removed. This left only one second-class car. three firsts and three sleepers, as th# Limited can take only eight cars in all. including the van. Since ihen the one second-class oar has been overcrowded on almost every trip. During holiday times as many as 60 people have arrived at Auckland on it, and the complaints have been loud and long. Moreover, the guards have been abused. Passengers who have refused to travel in the one second-class car because they could not get a seat have on several occasions caused trouble when the difference between the first and second fares was demanded. The guards have stood the brunt of the trouble. Now that the department has decided to revert to the previous system of two second-class cars, one of the firsts will be removed. The three sleepers will still remain on the train. Since the third sleeper was put on it has proved an excellent proposition, as the three cars have been almost filled on every journey. It is the intention of the department to make the Limited a first-class train, consisting mostly of sleepers, but this will not be done until next year.
