LYRIC
“SLIGHTLY USED” TO-MORROW The Scarlet Pimpernel story, “I Will Prepay,” which is now being shown at the Lyric Theatre, will be shown for the last time to-night. “Slightly Used” is the attraction to be shown to-morrow. It is the story of an elder sister whose father refuses to let her younger sisters marry until she is “off the shelf” herself. To escape the nagging, she pretends marriage with an Imaginary Major John Smith. All goes well till a newcomer arrives, with whom Cynthia falls in love. To get rid of the imaginary husband, she causes reports of his death to be published. The unknown major reads the news, and comes post haste to investigate. He, of course, falls in love with his “wife,” and after some hectic- hours, Cynthia reciprocates and becomes what she has pretended to be. The play is delightful. Conrad Nagel and May McAvoy, who will be remembered as teaming in “Grumpy,” are altogether satisfying as the high-flying Smiths, and the support leaves nothing to be wished. The second feature of the show tomorrow will be “Hamilton Husbands,” featuring Tony Firth, of Remuera.
