PRINCESS AND TIVOLI
“WHITE WINGS” TO-MORROW The big programme at present being shown at the Princess and Tivoli Theatres, Richard Barthelmess in “The Noose,” and the merry war comedy, “Rash Privates,” will be shown for the last time this evening. To-morrow there will be shown another strong programme headed by “White Wings,” a stirring sea yarn, starring William Boyd and Elinor Fair The main story of the film deals with the thrilling race of an English and an American clipper ship, in the days of the old sailing vessels. The race takes place from China to Boston Harbour, U.S.A., and the first vessel to land its cargo of tea is to have the entire tea market. William IJoyd, is a gallant, dashing figure as the young captain, and there is little doubt that this will prove quite one of the most popular of his roles. Elinor Fair portrays the role of Jocelyn Huntingdon, the daughter of the owner of one of the ships. She is an unwilling captive aboard the ship during the great race. A dramatic scene is that in which, during a mutiny on board ship, she climbs high up into the rigging to escape from a villainous sailor, portrayed by Walter Long. There are tense moments when he discovers her whereabouts, and clambers in pursuit up the swaying rope ladder to where she crouches, on the narrow platform, high up the mainmast. There is a beautiful love scene between her and William Boyd, in the picturesque surroundings of a Chinese garden. Arbours of almond blossom, terraced walks, and lotus-filled pools make a perfect setting for these scenes. The supporting picture will be “Surrender,” starring Mary Philbin and Ivan Mosjukine. “Surrender” is a story of the Great War, and deals with the love of a little Austrian peasant girl for a Russian prince, commander of the troops invading her village. A remarkable ventriloquist entertainment will also he given by Lawrence Johnston.
