BATTLE OVER SOLARIUM
DR. VALINTINE THANKED
SUPERINTENDENT’S SALARY RAISED Press Association. NAPIER, Monday. When the director-general of health, Dr. T. H. A. Valintine, recently attended a special meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board to discuss the question of a solarium in Napier, the board passed a motion of thanks and confidence in Dr. Valintine, and incidentally expressed agreement with him that the medical superintendent, Dr. J. B. A. Berry, should not have made a statement to the Press on the subject. To-day the board adopted the report of the special meeting, but not before the words “and confidence” had been deleted from the motion of compliment to Dr. Valintine. In the course of discussion members indicated their approval of the medical superintendent’s action in the affair. In explanation of the board’s attitude toward Dr. Berry at the special meeting, members said they had not seen published the remarks of Dr. Valintine. The board has granted Dr. Berry a substantial increase in salary.
