NGARUAWAHIA CATHOLICS

OPENING OF NEW SCHOOL Despite the showery weather many residents of the town and surrounding districts attended the opening of the Ngaruawahia Convent School. Bishop Cleary, supported by a number of visiting clergy, performed the opening ceremony. After the ceremony Bishop Cleary gave an address on the principles of Catholic education. He was followed by Father Curley, the parish priest, who dealt with the finances of the project, and thanked the congregation for its efforts. Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P., congratulated the Catholics on the fine building that had crowned their efforts. Mr. R. Duxfield, of Horotiu, and Mr. E. George, chairman of the Huntly Town Board, also spoke. * The school is substantially built of reinforced concrete, well-lit, ventilated and furnished, and is without doubt one of *the best appointed small school buildings in Auckland Province.
