Test-Cricket Trial
MATCH AT LORD’S PLAY NOT REASSURING (Australian Press Association.) Reed. 1.15 p.m. LONDON, Sunday. In the test trial cricket match at Lord’s, the Rest of England, in its first innings, made 307 —Jardine -4S, O’Connor 48, Staples, not out, 38, Nichols 3S. The play was not reassuring. The bowling was unconvincing. The wicket was dead after Thursday’s rain. Larwood was the only successful man with the ball, though such a pitch did not suit him. Six wickets were down for 133, then Ames and O’Connor added 71 in 45 minutes. England’s fielding, except Chapman’s, was ordinary. Hobbs made his first appearance since he tore his leg muscles 10 days ago, but the exertion of fielding before lunch renewed the trouble, though he hopes to bat on Monday.
