PAY FOR RELIEF WORKERS
ALTERATION REFUSED PROTEST FROM CANTERBURY (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The Canterbury General Labourers' Union has protested to the Prime Minister against the Government’s decision to continue the present rates of paj r to relief workers. In reply to its letter the Prime Minister says that the question has beer, given full consideration, but that regrets that the Government cannot make any change. “Opportunity \ given, however," Mr. Coates added, “lor men to earn more by working in co-operative parties on a co-operative basis, and I shall be pleased to refer tjris aspect to the Minister of Public Works with a view to ascertaining whether the men in the Canterbury district are being given such opportunity.’*
