AMERICA V. AUCKLAND

DEBATE IN TOWN HALL “That the American policy of Prohibition is desirable,” is the subject to be debated between a team from Bates College, Maine, America, and three representatives of the Auckland University College in the Town Hall next Monday evening. America will take the affirmative and the chairman will be Sir Walter Stringer. Proceeds will go to charity, and, as the Americans will be speaking on a subject of which they, no doubt, have expert knowledge, a large attendance is expected. The Auckland team will be able to put up a good fight, with three such Simpson and E. E. Bailey. Mr. Black, fine speakers as _ Messrs. Sholto Black,’ a former “Kiwi” editor, represented Auckland against the combined British Universities team several years ago, and Messrs. Simpson and Bailey also have line reputations as platform men The members of the Bates College team are Messrs. Charles H. Guptill, John F. Davis and Mervin L. Amer=’ They will be the guests of the College Students' Association until the Thursday evening, when'they will leave for Wellington.
