HAMILTON NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent) Mrs. Lawrence Watkins, of Wellington, who has spent some weeks in Hamilton, returns to her home this evening. Mrs. Melville Belle arrived in Auckland this morning from Hamilton and will leave for Africa early in the week. Mrs. E. F. Peacocke, of Hamilton, is at present in Auckland for a short holiday. Miss Betty Manning, of Hamilton, is spending the week-end in Auckland. * * * AFTERNOON TEAS Mrs. Magnus Johnson gave a very pleasant afternoon on Thursday at her home in River Road* The cosy drawing room was artistically decorated in autumn leaves and blossoms. Mrs. Johnson was in a pretty frock of old gold floral crepe de chine. Her guests were Mrs. A. S. Brewis, Mrs. S. Greene, Mrs. Gould (Christchurch), Mrs. H. M. Montgomery, Mrs. H. T. Gillies, Mrs. A. Joseph, Mrs. J. F. Strang. Mrs. H. C. Glendinning,. Mrs. H. J. McMullen, Mrs. G. E. Cox, Mrs. H. Ferguson, Mrs. J. W. Smith. Lady Cooper, who is at present staying with her daughter, Mrs. Magnus Johnson, was unable to be present owing to ill-health. On Friday afternoon Mrs H. J. McMullen invited a few of her friends to meet Mrs. Mackay, who has come from Auckland recently. A very pleasant afternoon was spent in friendly chat. Mrs. McMullen wore a rose du barri frock embroidered in brighter tones. Mrs. Mackay was in a grey tailored suit with green jumper, and smart green hat. The other guests were Mrs. Vere Chitty, Mrs. R. B. Cromwell, Mrs. A. R. Browne, Mrs. L. Swales, Mrs. McDonald and Miss Wyatt. BRIDGE AND DANCING A particularly jolly party was given by Miss Myra Hart, of Valmai, Cambridge, last night. The earlier part of the evening was spent in bridge, and after supper the time went merrily in dancing. Mrs. Hart was in a smart frock of black sequined georgette. Miss Hart wore a dainty frock of flesh pink taffeta, the skirt being composed of tiny frills. With this she wore a smart bridge coat of the same tone in embossed chenille, with fur bands. The guests included Mrs. Calvert, the Misses C. Berteleson, Hady, Clemo, T. Banks, S. McCarroll and Brabant, Messrs. Souter, C. Clayton-Greene, Harkness, Wilding, Hardy, Horton, McFarlane, J. Reilly. BRIDGE PARTY Last evening Mrs. E. F. Peacocke gave a most enjoyable bridge party in bridge room ©f the club. She received her guests wearing a handsome frock of black georgette and deep delphinium blue shawl. The lacUes present were Mrs. A. E. Cox, Mrs. J. D. Smith, Mrs. H. J. MeMullin, Mrs. H. Ferguson, Mrs. A. Joseph, Mrs. T. F. Jolly, Mrs. J. Chitty, Mrs. A. L. Shepherd, Mrs. F. Bond Mrs. T. Gillies, Mrs. O. Monckton, Mrs. C. Sutcliffe, Miss G. Eggleston, Miss C. WAHnutt and Miss Norrish. The prize for the highest number was won by Mrs. A. E. Cox and the consolation by Mrs. Fersuson.
