WANTED SHELTER

“DOWN-AND-OUT’S” REQUEST THREATENED TO COMMIT CRIME “I’m down and out —if you don’t take me in, I’ll do something serious,” said John Redman, aged 39, to a constable last night. Redman was taken in, and at the Police Court to-day he was charged with being idle and disorderly. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that accused had threatened to commit crime if he was not arrested, for he had no place to lodge. “I didn’t know I was going to be arrested,” said Redman. “I thought the constable would get me shelter for the night.” “Well, you got that.” remarked the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt. “Did you think the constable would take you to the Grand Hotel?” The charge was dismissed and in the meantime Redman will be cared for by the Salvation Army.
