ANZAC DAY SERVICES

PUBLIC OBSERVANCE OPPOSED (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, Friday. That the time has come to discontinue public services on Anzac Day was the opinion expressed this week by Mr. P. S. Finlay son. Mayor of Patea, when a letter was received by the borough council protesting against his action in refusing to hold a combined service in the town hall last Anzac Day. Mr. Finlayson said he had attended four such services, but it seemed to him to be tearing open the old wounds that time was healing slowly enough, and he thought that such meetings should be left to the churches.
