MINDING £50,000,000

BANK APPRECIATES ITS OFFICERS COMPETENT, CONTENTED STAFF (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Appreciation of the work of the executive and officers of the Bank of New Zealand was voiced at the annual meeting of shareholders to-day. These officers, in greater or lesser degree, share fin the care of £50,000,000 worth of assets. Mr. T. S. Weston, in moving a vote of thanks to the directors and staff, spoke in high terms of the officers of the bank both in London and here. Sir George Elliot, in returning thanks on behalf of the directors and staff, assured the shareholders that the managers of the various branches were not forgotten “so far as their salaries aj*e concerned.” he said. “I think they are well taken care of.”

Mr. Henry Buckleton, general manager of the bank, responding, thanked the shareholders for their vote, increased scale of pay and other improved conditions. On the whole the bank had a competent, contented staff, and shareholders might rely on good service being rendered the institution. It v/as no easy matter to keep £50,000,000 of the assets held by the bank safely and profitably employed. Fortunately he had closely associated with him, in the executive work of the head office capable, zealous and industrious officers, who. when his time came to retire, would be found in every way competent to continue to

conduct the bank’s business on sound and high-class lines. In the managers of the more important bank branches, where the greatest portion of the profits were earned the bank had officers fully equal to their duties, and among the remaining members of the staff there were many young men of much promise.
