NEW REGENT
DOUBLE FEATURE BILL
Esther Ralston plays the role of a young lady who decided to get into trouble and succeeded beyond her hopes in her latest picture, w T hich will be shown for the first time at the New Regent Theatre to-night. The picture is entitled “Love and Learn,” and is one of the most entertaining bits of joyousness one ever wants to see. When Esther returned home one day she found her father and mother firm on one thing, that they would obtain a divorce. So not wanting to wreck a perfectly good home and lose a couple of good parents over a silly quarrel, she decided to take a hand. She calculated that if she got into enough trouble she would make her fond parents forget their own. And what trouble she got into ultimately got her put in prison. How many girls would want to get into goal and then be disappointed when they were there. For after success came the realisation that she was in love, and to be near the man she loved she wanted to get out. It so happened that the man was the judge who had sentenced her, and when he found her wandering about his hotel when she should have been under lock and key, things were due to happen. A second feature will also be presented on the same programme, Richard Dix in “The Gay Defender,” a story of the early days of California. In this Dix plays a part entirely different from anything that he has essayed in the past. He is a bandit who risks his life for the woman he loves, and for his people. Finally, however, he manages to make things right, and is pardoned. Thelma Todd is the leading lady. In addition to the usual supporting items on the programme the Regent will present this evening the first authentic pictures of the airship Italia’s trial flight prior to its tragic ending during the flight to the Pole. An outstanding musical programme is also promised, as Leslie V. Harvey at the Wurlitzer will play “Bonny Scotland,” and “Somewhere a Voice Is Calling,” while the Regent Operatic Orchestra, under the baton of Arthur G. Frost, will play the overture, “Slavonic Rhapsody” (Friedman). Scenes from the Kingsford-Smith flight across the Pacific, showing the landing at Brisbane and Sydney, will be shown on Monday evening.
