ALFRED O’SHEA

COMING TO AUCKLAND We append an extract from the London “Daily Mail’s” critique of an Alfred O’Shea recital at the Queen’s Hall, London. “The young Irish Australian has a beautiful lyric tenor. Mr. O’Shea’s singing reveals complete mastery over his voice, resulting in artistic shadings and most commendable use of mezzo voce. There are many world-renowned tenors who are unable to control their voices like this young Australian; for instance, France’s greatest tenor, Annseau, who is at present in America, and who roars at the top of his voice. Another of Mr. O’Shea’s attributes is an excellent pronunciation of both Italian and French, which proves that he must have worked hard to master so successfully the purity of the open vowels.” Mr. O’Shea’s first Auckland concert will be given in the big Town Hall on Thursday, June 26, under the skilled direction of Mr. Henry Hayward, and the programmes will include arias, art songs, old Irish melodies and fo'k lore songs. Mr. O’Shea will be supported by Miss Kathleen Fitzgerald, solo pianiste, and Miss Claire Hartge, violiniste. The box plans will open next Thursday at Lewis Eady, Ltd.
