BURIED MEDAL GIVES CLUE TO IDENTITY
UNKNOWN N.Z. SOLDIER DISCOVERY NEAR FLERS Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. The Imperial War Graves Commission, ever on the lookout for clues which may lead to the discovery of th€; names of unknown fallen soldiers, has sent to New Zealand a small gold medal on the obverse side of which the letters B.S.C. are inscribed, and on th€» reverse, “Won by, Mrs. Neville's trophy, M. Taylor.” It was found buried near Flers with the remains probably of an unknown New Zealand soldier, though a search of the records shows no name of M. Taylor as having fallen in action with the New Zealanders. The “Post” publishes to-day a photo of the medal and it is hoped that it may lead to identification. Buried alongside the remains on which the medal was found were the bodies of two other unknown New Zealanders. It has been established by the tunic buttons of one and the title showing “15/ N.Z.R.” on the other that in all probability they were from the 15th North Auckland Company.
