RADIO PROGRAMMES
Sir, — In the last official figures, there were fewer licences taken out this year than last, which in my humble opinion is due to the fact that the Radio Broadcasting Company is not putting sufficiently appetising fare on the air in the shape of programmes. Now, a few suggestions will not be misplaced, and the powers that control the Radio Broadcasting Company are welcome to adopt them. First, variety is wanting. Take for instance the programmes from 2BL Sydney On Saturday evenings every radio fan is juggling the knobs to listsen in to the description of the boxing contests from the Rushcutters’ Bay stadium, which are so very popular with the great majority of listeners. How often do we have a boxing cointest put on the air in New Zealand?— very seldom indeed. What is wrong with IYA and the Northern Boxing Association? Country listeners would greatly appreciate a relay of this description. Alfred O’Shea has been on the air several times from Australia. Cannot we have him on the air when his season opens in Auckland? A little energy on the part of the broadcasting authorities would have a beneficial effect on the increase in radio licences. ONE OF THE SUFFERERS.
