"TIME TO TAKE HAND”
REMUERA RATEPAYERS ASSOCIATION FORMED “Drainage work in Remuera requires urgent attention, and yet no notice is taken of deputations.” said Mr. R. Benson, chairman of the inaugural meeting of the Remuera Central Ratepayers' Association, last evening. About 100 attended, and several speakers criticised the administration of the City Council. The chairman continued: “I think it is time we organised ourselves, and took a hand in the game. We can give our views on the administration of the city.” Mr. H„ P. Taylor, of the City West Ratepayers’ Association, said that a ratepayers’ association’s function was to give constructive criticism. The many organisations in the city should be able to bring about some good. One of the objects might be the more even distribution of seats on the council. Councillor W. H. Murray reviewed the council’s contracts for cartage and the supply of kerbs and pitchers, and said that during the time he had been a member of the City Council he had made an honest effort to do his best.
It was decided to protest against the condition of the storm water sewers between Orakei and Upland Roads, and in the Clonbern Road district. A resolution, moved by Mr. J. R. Lundon, protesting against the increase in salaries of officials already highly paid, at a time when there was unemployment, was also carried.
