POWER BOARD WANTED

MOVE IN KING COUNTRY CURRENT FROM ARAPUNI (From Our Own Corresvondent) TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday. The Chamber of Commerce has resolved to take steps to obtain data relative to the possible formation of an electric power board, to embrace Taumarunui, Ohura and Kaitieke Counties, including boroughs and town districts. Inquiries have been made from the Government regarding the supply from Arapuni, and a reply was received to the effect that to bring a power line into the district from Arapuni would mean very heavy expenditure, and could not be undertake unless the department could see sufficient revenue in view to warrant it: but that if there was any prospect of a power board being formed, and indication given that the required load would cover the expense, the matter would be further gone into.

The Chamber of Commerce holds the view that the borough electrical scheme is now quite inadequate for the demand, and the country districts should be considered. Full information for the Public Works Department is to be secured.
