FOCUSSING HEADLIGHTS

TESTING STATION ON CIVIC SQUARE Very definite provisions about the adjusting of headlights is contained in the new motor regulations, but few motorists know whether their lights are correct or know how to adjust them if necessary. Regulation t, sub-section 10, says: “Every headlight attached to a motor vehicle shall be so focussed and ad-

justed when the vehicle is standing on a horizontal surface the main beam of light is not projected above the horizontal plane of the lamp, nor projected to a height which at a distance of 75ft from the lamp is more than 3ft 6in above such horizontal surface.”

Some years ago a brick wall on the western side of the Civic Square was marked out as a headlight testing station. This space has now been cleared, and the A.A.A. has arranged for one of its patrol officers to be stationed there on certain evenings, from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m., to help drivers check the headlights on their cars. This service, which is free, is available every evening until Friday week, with the exception of Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.
