DIESEL ENGINES IN TRUCKS
PRODUCT OF GERMAN FACTORY Trucks fitted with Diesel engines are now being turned out by the Mercedes Benz factory in Germany. It is interesting to note that while operating economy is the most important advantage of the Diesel engined lorry, in some countries this type of engine is being called for because of its greater safety from fire risks, compared with the normal petrol engine.
Germany undoubtedly has made greater progress in the application of Diesel engines to road vehicles than any other nation, and there is every reason to believe that within a few years the heavy oil engine will be very extensively used on omnibuses and trucks.
A wonderful change has taken place m Germany during the last three or four years in the application of omnibuses and coaches. The vehicles are all of modern design, and their use has grown in amazing proportions. Generally speaking, Germany is much more advanced in commercial motor transportation than in private cars.
In France the post-war revival showed itself in popular private cars; in Germany it came with commercials, and it may be two or three years yet before the private car begins to grow at a rapid rate.
