“MADAME POMPADOUR”
LAST PERFORMANCE TO-NIGHT
Beppie de Vries will make her last bow this evening as Madame Pompadour, mistress of the most extravagant of all the French monarchs —Louis XV. To-night is the last performance of the musical comedy which has interested Aucklanders so much at His Majesty’s Theatre. Members of the company will leave for the South tomorrow. A fascinating Pompadour, shrewd, calculating, yet nothing if not charming, Beppie de Vries’s interpretation of an exceedingly difficult role will be long remembered. Frank Webster, playing opposite the star, makes an ideal lover. “Madame Pompadour” is superbly mounted. Th© dressing, too, is quite a feature of the production. Not to be forgotten is the performance of Arthur Stigant, the poet who lampooned La Pompadour, and, eventually, was accused of being her lover. The last performance of “Madame Pompadour” will take place this evening.
