It is officially announced that the Prime Minister, General Primo de Rivera, has broken off his engagement to Senorita Intercedes de Castellanos, which was announced on April 21 last. The announcement has caused considerable surprise in Spain. The Royal licence for the marriage was issued last month, when it was announced that King Alfonso would attend the wedding. She left for Paris on Thursday, but it is understood that differences of opinion arose on Monday regarding the wisdom of certain financial transactions of hers. In consequence, General Primo de Rivera decided upon an irrevocable rupture of the engagement.
General Primo de Rivera has been a widower for 18 years. Senorita de Castellanos, who is 47, is a member of a Spanish diplomatic family. She was a nurse in France during the war. The marriage was to have taken place in September.
