DAMAGE TO MILL
FIRE AT NEWMARKET The fire in the timber mill of C. and A. Odlin, timber merchants, of Newmarket, on Saturday afternoon caused damage estimated at £I,OOO. A stack of dry timber only a few yards away, which was valued at £ 8.000, was saved. There had been no fire in the furnaces since the mill closed down at five o’clock on Friday, and it is thought that sparks from an engine passing along the railway line about 20yds away caused the blaze. It was in the part of the yard nearest the line that the flames were first noticed. The mill, which was destroyed completely, was insured for £250 and the stock inside for £3OO. There is a policy for £1,850 on the plant, which was damaged. The sawn timber was insured for £B.OOO, all policies being held in the Alliance Assurance Office.
